Natural Remedies to Help Combat Flu

2 August 2009 789 views No Comment

It’s coming up to that time of year again when influenza strikes in most of our homes. Having the flu is not a very pleasant experience, and you may experience high temperature, sore throat, a bad cough, and achy muscles. Unfortunately influenza is a virus, and once you catch it there isn’t an awful lot you can do about it. There is no cure for the flu virus, the only thing you can do take a few days off, relax in bed and make yourself feel more comfortable. Luckily, there are many natural remedies that can help alleviate the symptoms of the flu.

My first set of natural remedies to help you combat flu has nothing to do with herbs and vitamins, but more to do with common sense. If you are suffereing from flu you should make sure you get plenty of rest and not try to overdo it. There is no better way to get over the flu than catching some zzzzz’s with some power naps. You should also drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated.

If you don’t mind a little bad breath, then garlic can be used to help combat flu. Many people believe that garlic can help you recover from influenza a lot faster. Garlic can be eaten raw, or if preferred you can chop it up and ad it to hot soup. Another popular natural flu remedy is vitamin C. You will find vitamin C in many fresh fruit and freshly squeezed orange juice. You can also purchase vitamin C capsules or tablets that can be taken on a regular basis to help prevent flu.

Whilst we are on the topic of flu prevention, you should make sure you wash your hands regularly and keep surfaces in your home clean if you want to prevent yourself from catching the virus in the first place. It’s all about being hygienic by keeping clean tissues handy and covering your mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing to help stop the flu from spreading.
