In a recent World Health Organization survey, it has been estimated that 75% of all adults suffer from some form of headache. What is more interesting and probably not very surprising is the fact that 50% of those affected opt for self medication. Continuing further it states that only around 10% of them go to neurologist.
This phenomenon has a history behind it proven by the fact that only 4 hours is spent by medical colleges worldwide on studying about headaches. This shows that society at large still doesnot consider headaches to be an illness that needs specialized health care.
The study also details out the effect on society in terms of lost productivity which is far more than the amount spent on healthcare towards headache related treatments.
The major factors causing headache are migraine, tension related and medication overuse. Considering the lifestyle today, it is not surprising that headaches caused due to tension related issues are most common.
We covered a few natural treatment options for headache but it must be stated that there is no substitute for visiting a qualified medical practitioner to have a complete analysis done and medication (either traditional or natural) prescribed.
